Local JROTC receive Governor’s Volunteer Service Award Medallion
D.H. Conley JROTC cadets, commander receive state award at May 12 ceremony
Six cadets and Commander of the D.H. Conley JROTC program were recognized at the 2025 Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards on Monday, May 12 at the N.C. State Capitol located at 1 E Edenton St, Raleigh, N.C.
Created by the Office of the Governor in 1979, the Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards Program recognizes North Carolina’s most dedicated volunteers and has been bestowed on thousands of North Carolinians who have shown concern and compassion for their neighbors by volunteering in their local community.
As part of the program, each county selects up to 10 individuals, businesses, groups or teams and one paid Director of Volunteers to be recognized for outstanding contributions to their communities.
For more than 40 years, the cadets in the D.H. Conley JROTC program have volunteered at the Greenville-Pitt County Senior Game Local Games and the NC Senior Games State Finals in Raleigh. Volunteer duties include event set up, running events, clean up, assisting seniors and providing Color Guard for the annual Celebration of the Games. The Conley JROTC is the only volunteer group that has worked every State Finals since the first games held in 1985. Additionally, the group has other volunteer projects throughout Pitt County each year.
Medallion recipients were recognized at the Monday, June 16, 2025 meeting of the Pitt County Board of Commissioners.
