Pitt County Expands Flood Information Access with New Website, Forerunner

PITT COUNTY, N.C. Pitt County is enhancing how residents, builders and developers access floodplain information with the launch of its new public flood website, powered by Forerunner. Designed as a one-stop shop for critical resources, the County’s Forerunner portal will help community members better understand their flood risk and take proactive steps toward resilience.

Situated inland yet vulnerable to coastal impacts, Pitt County faces flood threats from riverine systems and hurricanes. As a Community Rating System (CRS) Class 8 participant, the County supports several municipalities across its jurisdiction with floodplain management. These efforts provide technical support and help residents access flood insurance discounts while advancing broader community resilience goals.

Key features include:

  • Centralized Flood Information: Residents, builders and developers can easily reference flood maps, elevation data and documentation in one location.
  • Simplified Access: The public website makes it easier to visualize property-specific flood risk and find guidance on mitigation, insurance, and preparedness.
  • Improved Transparency: By centralizing resources, the County is helping communities stay informed and more resilient in the face of hurricanes and flood events.

“Forerunner allows us to bring together the critical information our residents and partners need to prepare for flooding,” said Thomas Shrader, CFM and Planner III for Pitt County Planning & Development. “By making this data easily accessible online, we’re helping people make informed decisions about safety, building and development.”

Forerunner is an AI-powered geospatial platform that helps more than 160 government agencies tackle growing environmental and infrastructure challenges. Its tools centralize critical data, streamline operations, automate manual tasks and enhance communication.

“The Forerunner website is an important step toward empowering our communities,” added Jonas Hill, Director, Pitt County Planning & Development department. “It centralizes flood information, increases transparency and supports our ongoing commitment to building resilience across Pitt County.”

The public portal is designed to strengthen community preparedness and support Pitt County’s ongoing CRS and floodplain management initiatives. By combining real-time hazard data, accessible records and direct support, Pitt County is advancing its mission of protecting residents and reducing flood risk.

“Forerunner is proud to partner with Pitt County,” said Susanna Pho, Co-Founder and COO of Forerunner. “The County is ensuring that residents and local communities can access the knowledge and resources they need to reduce risk and build resilience.”
