Pitt County WIC Remains Open During Federal Government Shutdown

North Carolina Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) at Pitt County Health Department is operational and remains open despite the federal government shutdown.

While the WIC program is not yet fully funded for Fiscal Year 2026, at this time, there has been no interruption in services. The program remains open and benefits are available. Representatives with WIC are making every effort to support families as the federal shutdown continues.
“WIC remains open and fully operational.”, says Pitt County WIC Director, Shannon Holton, “We’ve noticed some confusion between SNAP and WIC, but it’s important to understand that these are separate programs. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.”

WIC serves to safeguard the health of low income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing:
Healthy Foods
Breastfeeding Promotion and Support
Nutrition Education
Community Referrals

To apply for WIC individuals may visit the NC WIC web site at www.ncdhhs.gov/ncwicreferral or call the Pitt County Health Department.
As more information is available, updates will be communicated via State and local web sites, Pitt County’s Facebook page and directly to WIC participants with current contact information on file. The Pitt County WIC Office encourages participants to keep scheduled appointments. Anyone with questions is welcome to call the Pitt County WIC Office at 252-902-2393.
This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
The Mission of Pitt County Government is to enhance the health, safety, and well-being of our community by advocating for and providing quality services in a friendly and cost-effective manner. Learn more: www.PittCountyNC.gov
