Countywide Burn Ban Issued for Pitt County
Due to recent weather patterns affecting Pitt County, local Emergency Management officials in conjunction with the North Carolina Forest Service have issued a countywide burning ban effective at 8:00 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2025.
The burning ban prohibits the creation of any outdoor open burning for activities such as bonfires, yard vegetation, and land clearing.
It is spring wildfire season in North Carolina, and current conditions have increased risks associated with outside burning in Pitt County. The current weather patterns of high winds and low humidity have resulted in extremely dry conditions of dormant vegetation, which increases the risk of easier fire ignition of material such as leaves, grass, trees and plants.
Individuals that violate the burning ban will be required to extinguish the fire and could be subject to legal action.
The burning ban will remain in effect until such time that weather conditions reduce the increased threat of fire.
