Residents Urged to Prepare Before a Storm Is Forecasted
As hurricane season approaches, Pitt County Emergency Management (PCEM) urges residents to understand the risks and take proactive steps to reduce risks to their homes and families during Hurricane Preparedness Week, Sunday, May 4 through Saturday, May 10, 2025.
With North Carolina’s history of severe storms, it is critical for residents to be prepared before a hurricane strikes. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with peak activity occurring between August and October, making it essential for residents to plan ahead.
“Now is the time to review emergency plans, stock up on supplies and stay aware of potential threats. Preparation can make all the difference in reducing your risk during a hurricane,”
says Randy Gentry, Director, Emergency Management.
The National Weather Service has prepared a week-long schedule with daily themes to encourage residents to prepare for hurricane season properly.
- Sunday, May 4 – Know Your Risk: Wind & Water
- Monday, May 5 – Prepare Before Hurricane Season
- Tuesday, May 6 – Understand Forecast Information
- Wednesday, May 7 – Get Moving When a Storm Threatens
- Thursday, May 8 – Stay Protected During Storms
- Friday, May 9 – Use Caution After Storms
- Saturday, May 10 – Take Action Today
