Pitt County Recognizes American Heart Month
Special programming and education efforts planned during February
PITT COUNTY, N.C. – In recognition of February as American Heart Month, Pitt County Government is urging employees and community members to take charge of their cardiovascular health by understanding risks and adopting healthier lifestyles. The following is planned throughout the month.
Awareness for All
National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 6, 2026. Cardiovascular Disease is the number one killer of women. Since 2004, Go Red for Women, the American Heart Association’s signature initiative for women, has focused on improving awareness and care for women affected by cardiovascular disease (CVD). In support of Go Red Day, County employees and the general public are invited to wear red. The cupula of the Pitt County Courthouse, located at 100 W 3rd Street Greenville, will be lit red on February 6. The Public Information Office will promote heath tips from the American Heart Association on its Facebook page @PittCountyNC all month. The public is encouraged to follow to learn more.
Employee Education
A virtual Hands-Only CPR Class sponsored by Triangle/ ENC American Heart Association will be offered to Pitt County employees on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. County employees will have an opportunity to increase their knowledge and awareness about Hands-Only CPR and learn how to respond in the event of an emergency. Employees interested in registering may email nichelle.shuck@pittcountync.gov by Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Pitt County EMS will offer two in-person CPR classes for County employees on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at the Pitt County Office Park Community Center. The first session will be held from 8:30- 10:00 a.m. and the second from 3:30-5:00 p.m. Participants will earn one Wellness Point and may sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090F4DABA62DAAF94-61991609-wellness.
“Heart disease impacts families across our community, but many risk factors are preventable,” says Janis Gallagher, Pitt County Manager. “American Heart Month is an opportunity to remind our employees and community members that small, everyday choices, like staying active, eating well and learning life-saving skills such as CPR, can make a lasting difference in heart health.”

Cultural Arts & Recreation will host a community Aerobic Soul Line Dance Social on Friday, February 13 from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at the Pitt County Office Park Community Center located at 415 Government Circle, Greenville, NC 27834. Community members can step, slide and shuffle the night away! Whether you're an experienced dancer or lacing up your dancing shoes for the first time, this is the perfect opportunity to move, meet new friends and enjoy a lively atmosphere. Our experienced and friendly instructor and fellow dancers will be on hand to help participants learn the steps.
