PATS Eligibility
Transportation Assistance Programs
Pitt County offers transportation programs to help residents get to medical appointments, pharmacies, nutrition sites, and other community services. These services are available for older adults, people with disabilities, and residents who do not have other transportation options.
The programs below explain who is eligible and how to request service. Pitt Area Transit System (PATS) serves residents who live outside the Greenville GREAT bus service area. PATS also provides paratransit service to eligible riders within the GREAT service area.
To use Pitt Area Transit System (PATS) services, riders must complete the required eligibility form below. After submitting the form, applicants can expect a response within two business days.

Stay Independent with County Transportation
Elderly and Disabled Transportation Assistance: This program provides operating assistance to help cover transportation needs for elderly and disabled residents.
Council on Aging
The Pitt County Council on Aging provides transportation assistance for clients age 60 and older who are not receiving Medicaid. Services include rides to doctor appointments and pharmacy visits (for prescription pickups only), as well as transportation to Council on Aging nutrition sites and special events. If you are a Medicaid recipient, you may qualify for additional transportation services. Contact your Medicaid case worker.

GREAT Para-Transit Service
Greenville Area Transit (GREAT) offers para-transit service for elderly and disabled individuals who live within three-quarters of a mile of GREAT’s fixed route. To qualify, a physician or health care professional must certify that the applicant’s disability prevents them from riding the regular bus system. This service is provided for the City of Greenville by Pitt Area Transit System.
Trips must be within three-quarters of a mile of the Greenville Area Transit service area. ADA accommodation requests may be requested by passengers.

Reliable Transportation for Rural Residents
Some Pitt County residents need transportation that is not covered by the Council on Aging, GREAT Para-Transit, or Medicaid programs. These residents may qualify for the Rural General Public Transportation Program (RGP). This program helps people travel to destinations in rural areas of Pitt County.

Rural General Public (RGP) Program
The RGP Program provides transportation for residents who:
- Live outside the EDTAP urban service area
- Do not have another agency or organization that can pay for transportation
Trips may be provided for the following reasons:
- Job interviews, job fairs, and job training
- GED classes and travel to work
- Human services appointments, public hearings, and committee meetings
- Medical visits and pharmacy trips
- Personal care and banking needs
Trips must start or end in a rural area and are scheduled through the Community Transportation System.
