Protect Pitt’s Beauty and Progress
Littering, whether intentional or not, harms our environment and affects public health, wildlife, local pride, and economic growth. From a wrapper tossed on the ground to a mattress dumped in a wooded area, littering can have serious consequences. Reducing litter is everyone’s responsibility. By making thoughtful choices like securing your load, properly disposing of waste, and reporting violations, you help protect the natural beauty and health of Pitt County.
Together, we can reduce litter and create a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming community for everyone
Simple Steps to Reduce Litter
Everyday habits can help protect shared spaces. Whether transporting items, setting out trash, or just going about your day, these simple steps make a big difference in keeping our community clean.

Join the Movement to Keep Pitt Clean
Parks, trails, roadsides, and sidewalks belong to all of us. Taking care of these spaces builds pride, strengthens community bonds, and protects the environment. Reducing litter starts with action, here are ways to get involved.
Join Cleanups and Litter Sweeps
Pitt County hosts litter sweeps and beautification events each spring and fall, in partnership with NCDOT’s statewide Litter Sweep. Volunteers receive supplies and can earn service hours while helping keep roadsides clean.

Promote a Culture of Cleanliness
Pick up litter when you see it and encourage others to do the same. When visiting parks, bring a bag for trash and recyclables. Leave the area better than you found it.
Report Illegal Dumping
Illegal dumping harms our community and costs taxpayers. If you see it, report it:
