Pitt County Recognizes National Social Worker Month
This year’s theme is "Compassion + Action"
March is recognized as National Social Work Month, offering an opportunity to spotlight the social work profession and honor the remarkable contributions made by social workers in Pitt County.
The "Compassion + Action" campaign for Social Work Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness among the public, legislators, and employers about the essential work social workers do in supporting individuals daily, helping them navigate life’s challenges and reach their fullest potential.
“I would like to take a moment to recognize the unwavering dedication and hard work of our DSS staff, who consistently serve the residents of our community and embody the County’s mission to enhance health, safety, and well-being through the delivery of high-quality services in a compassionate and cost-effective manner,” says Janis Gallagher, County Manager.
Agency accomplishments from the last 12 months include:
- Adoption of 11 children and permanence for 75 children
- Child protection interventions involving 1,221 families
- Child protective in home services to 233 families
- Guardianship service for 213 adults
- Protection intervention to more than1,153 vulnerable disabled adults
- Over 4,700 child care subsidy cases
- Utility assistance to 6,581 households
- Transition of 64 individuals towards sustained employment through Employment and Training program
