Food and Nutrition Services and SNAP Benefits Update
Social Services announces possible disruption for November 2025 FNS benefits
The Board of County Commissioners was updated at their Monday, October 20th meeting that the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) received a letter from the federal government on Thursday, October 16, 2025 announcing that November Food and Nutrition Services (FNS), including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits may be disrupted if the federal shutdown continues.
County Manager Janis Gallagher advised the Board that the Agency is working to get a better understanding of what the disruption will mean for residents of Pitt County.
“It may mean that November FNS benefits may not be issued on our clients’ normal schedule or for their usual benefit amount. While it’s still unclear, Pitt County understands how important these benefits are and will share updates as soon as federal guidance is issued,” says Sharon Rochelle, Social Services Director.
There are more than 14,000 FNS cases with Pitt County DSS. FNS recipients may check their balances in the evtEDGE app or by calling number on the back of the EBT card. Residents may learn more about community food and housing resources by visiting PittCountyNC.gov/FoodHousingHelp or with NC211. Individuals may dial 2-1-1 or visit NC211.org to connect with local food pantries, meal programs and other essential services. NC211 is available 24/7 and in multiple languages.
