Supporting Smart Planning for Pitt County’s Future

Shaping policy and planning to guide growth, development, and land use across the county, the Planning Board advises commissioners by reviewing rezoning requests, zoning ordinance amendments, subdivision plans, and long-range initiatives. The board evaluates proposed neighborhoods, commercial projects, and industrial developments to ensure they align with the county’s land use plan and standards. It also works to balance new development with the protection of natural resources, farmland, and community character, while contributing to comprehensive, transportation, recreation, and other long-term plans. Meetings provide a forum for residents to provide input, as appropriate, on proposed changes that may impact growth and land use.
