Supporting Transparent and Accessible Government
Appointed by the Board of County Commissioners in accordance with NCGS 153A-111, the Clerk to the Board provides essential administrative and legislative support to ensure the effective operation of county government. The Clerk manages official Board processes, including preparing agendas and minutes, recording and attesting to Board actions, issuing public notices as required by the Open Meetings Law, and maintaining permanent records. Through these responsibilities, the Clerk safeguards the integrity of the Board’s official proceedings and ensures long-term public access to government records..

Clerk to the BoardThe County Clerk to the Board serves as the central point of coordination for the Board of Commissioners and the public. In addition to organizing meetings and preserving official records, the Clerk assists residents, staff, and elected officials with information requests, public notices, and documentation related to Board actions. This role helps ensure meetings run smoothly, records remain accurate and accessible, and the community can stay informed and engaged in local government.
Make an Impact on Our Community Through Service
Volunteering to serve on a County board or committee is a meaningful way to support your community and help guide important local decisions. Residents who volunteer bring valuable perspectives, strengthen public involvement, and help shape programs and services that impact daily life across our county.
Many boards and committees welcome new members throughout the year. These groups focus on areas such as planning, health, environmental stewardship, social services, economic development, and community engagement. Each one benefits from residents who are willing to share their time, experience, and ideas.
Community members are encouraged to explore available openings, review board responsibilities, and submit an application when ready. Joining a board is a chance to learn more about local government, collaborate with others, and contribute to the continued growth and well-being of the community.
